Wolverhampton Wanderers announced this Thursday (July 24) the signing of attacking midfielder Jhon Arias, formerly of Fluminense. The 27-year-old Colombian signed a four-year contract with the option to extend for another year, and will remain at the English club until July 2029. “Hello Wolves fans, this is Jhon Arias. I want to express my happiness to be here and to be part of this club. See you at Molineux. I’m looking forward to a great season for all of us. Best regards and God bless,” said Jhon Arias in a video posted on Wolverhampton’s social media.
The Colombian will wear the number 10 jersey at his new club.
Details of the sale to English football
Fluminense confirmed the sale of Jhon Arias last Friday (July 18). Wolverhampton Wanderers paid approximately €20 million (R$130 million at the current exchange rate) for the player. Fluminense retains 10% of the player’s economic rights, with a possible future transfer.
A product of the youth academy of Llaneros in Colombia, Jhon Arias also played for América de Cali and Independiente Santa Fé before signing with Fluminense in August 2021. For Fluminense, Arias played 230 matches, scored 47 goals, and provided 55 assists. The attacking midfielder was a key player in the 2023 Copa Libertadores, 2024 Recopa Sudamericana, and 2022 and 2023 Campeonato Carioca titles.
He excelled at the Club World Cup in the United States, leading the competition in chances created with 18, earning a spot in the tournament’s best player selection. He also played 31 times for Colombia, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
