
The number 10 of Corinthians and the Dutch National Team scored a double in the team’s 8-0 win over Malta this Tuesday (10/6)
This Tuesday, with a record by Memphis Depay, Corinthians’ striker, the Netherlands crushed Malta by winning 8-0 in the fourth round of Group G of the European Qualifiers for the World Cup. The number 10 scored two goals in the triumph and tied Van Persie as the top scorer for the Dutch national team. Van Dijk, Xavi Simons, Malen (2x), Lang e Van de Ven completed the scoring at the Euroborg Stadium.
With the two goals scored against Malta, Memphis Depay reached the mark of 50 goals in 102 games played for the Netherlands. He tied Robin Van Persie’s record and now shares the title of top scorer for the Dutch national team with the former striker.
With this result, the Netherlands takes the lead in Group G, with six points and two wins in two games. Malta is in last place in the group, with only one point won in four games.
Now, the two teams will only return to the field on the next FIFA date, for the fifth round of the European Qualifiers. The Netherlands will host Poland on the 4th, at 3:45 pm (Brasília time), at Feyenoord Stadium, while Malta will visit Lithuania on the same day, at 1 pm, at Darius and Girėnas Stadium.
Five minutes into the game, Kluivert was brought down inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty. After a review by the VAR, the penalty was confirmed. Memphis took a penalty into the lower right corner, displacing the goalkeeper and opening the scoring for the Netherlands.
In the 15th minute, the Netherlands increased their lead. Memphis received the ball at the edge of the area and shot hard, leaving goalkeeper Bonello with no chance.
Five minutes later, in the 20th minute, the Netherlands scored their third goal without any difficulty. Van Dijk received the ball at the edge of the box and shot powerfully. Goalkeeper Bonello accepted the ball and the Dutch team went 3-0 up.
It was in the 16th minute that the Netherlands turned the victory into a rout. Memphis played a beautiful ball to Xavi Simons inside the box. The midfielder finished with a low cross and scored the fourth goal for the Dutch team in the match.
In the 28th minute, the Netherlands scored their fifth goal. Van de Ven received a beautiful ball on the left side and crossed low into the box. Malen, alone, just finished it off and found the back of the net. Four minutes later, Malen passed the ball in the small area to Lang, who pushed it into the goal and scored the sixth for the Dutch team.
In the 34th minute, the Netherlands did not take their foot off the gas and scored the seventh goal after a great play by Malen. The forward received a good pass from De Jong inside the area, dribbled past the first defender, cut past the second and finished for the goal, leaving goalkeeper Bonello with no chance. In injury time, after a loose ball inside the area, Van de Ven completed the goal with a beautiful finish and closed the rout at 8-0.
