The coach is very close to being announced for his 7th stint at Laranjeiras.

After 11 years, Renato Gaúcho is returning to Fluminense. The coach – an idol of the Club in the 1990s – accepted the invitation from president Mário Bittencourt and will initially lead the Tricolor das Laranjeiras until the end of the year, as is his custom. The coach had been free on the market since December, when he left Grêmio.

Renato received invitations from Santos and Vasco, but decided not to move forward with an agreement. However, his long-standing relationship with Flu weighed on him to replace Mano Menezes, who was fired after the defeat to Fortaleza in the opening match of the Campeonato Brasileirão.

According to columnist Paulo Brito, from the NETFLU portal, Renato has smoothed things over with Flu’s top brass and will receive the highest salary offered by the Club to a coach in its 122-year history. The manager will earn R$1.5 million per month, totaling R$13.5 million by December.

According to the agreement between Renato’s staff and president Mário Bittencourt, the contract is valid until December, but with the possibility of an extension for another season. The coach arrives at Laranjeiras with assistants Alexandre Mendes and Marcelo Salles.

The choice of Renato Gaúcho came after Gabriel Milito refused. The former Atlético-MG coach was previously approached by the Tricolor board, but claimed “family issues” and did not accept the offer.

The expectation is that Renato Gaúcho will be on the sidelines for the match against Bragantino, next Sunday (6), at Maracanã, for the second round of the Campeonato Brasileirão.

This will be the former player’s seventh stint in charge of the tricolor, where he won the 2007 Copa do Brasil title and was also runner-up in the Libertadores in 2008.
