The coach has led Fluminense on five occasions, the last in 2014; Dorival Júnior and Odair Hellmann are on the club’s radar.
Fluminense continues its search for a coach. After firing Mano Menezes last Saturday (3/29), following the 2-0 defeat to Fortaleza in the opening round of the Brasileirão, the club is keeping an eye on the market, and Renato Gaúcho appears as an option. In a statement to ESPN on Monday (3/31), the coach, who has been without a club since leaving Grêmio at the end of 2024, revealed that he is “on the market”. Renato, 62, has been in charge of Fluminense five times. The last time, however, was in 2014.
“I wasn’t approached, but I’m open to talking, if I receive an invitation, to analyze the proposal. I’m already on the market,” said Renato. After leaving Grêmio, where he is an idol, Renato has already received and rejected invitations from Vasco and Cruzeiro. Cruz-Maltino hired Fábio Carille, while Raposa sought the Portuguese Leonardo Jardim. Renato Gaúcho was the champion of the Copa do Brasil and runner-up in the Libertadores for Fluminense, in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
According to the article, other options for Tricolor are Dorival Júnior and Odair Hellmann. Both had stints with Fluminense, by the way. Dorival, who left the Brazilian National Team last week after the embarrassment against Argentina, coached Flu in 2013. Hellmann, on the other hand, led the team in 2020, taking the Rio de Janeiro team to the Libertadores. However, he left the club to play for Al-Wasl (UAE).
