Real Madrid has approved the organization, promotion, and prize pool for the FIFA Club World Cup. According to the English newspaper The Guardian, the Spanish club wants the competition to be held every two years.
Considered the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid was the tournament’s biggest draw, as all of its matches drew large crowds. FIFA is considering holding the tournament every four years, but has not yet announced when or where the next World Cup will be held. The format and number of clubs may also be subject to change.
Brazil has already applied to host the next edition of the tournament, which is scheduled for 2029. The revelation was made by CBF president Samir Xaud in an interview with the newspaper O Globo. He said he brought the idea to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
“It all started with an introductory conversation. I discussed my goals as head of the CBF and said we want to be closer to FIFA. I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs, and finally, I offered to host the next World Cup. He was very happy and said it was entirely possible. Now we’ll work to make it happen. It’s going to be a great goal,” said Samir Xaud.
Samir and Infantino met at the FIFA Football Executive Summit in Miami, United States. Although this isn’t an official bid, the CBF already considers it a formal expression of its desire. And FIFA welcomed the offer, as the Brazilian public is very excited about the tournament, especially given the positive performance of the country’s teams.
Morocco and Australia have also announced their intention to host the Club World Cup in 2029. There is also the possibility of the United States remaining as the host country. FIFA has not explained how the selection will be made.
