Portugal star admits to turning down ‘tempting offer’ from Al-Hilal

Portuguese national team number 8 midfielder Bruno Fernandes has turned down an offer from Al-Hilal

Portuguese attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes confirmed on Tuesday (3/6) that he had turned down “a tempting offer” from Saudi club Al-Hilal and preferred to remain at Manchester United, explaining that he wants to continue “playing at the highest level”.

“The president of Al-Hilal called me and asked if I wanted to go there,” Fernandes said in a press conference on the eve of Portugal’s match against Germany in the Nations League semi-final on Wednesday in Munich.

“I want to play in the big competitions. I know I can still do that,” he added. According to several British media outlets, Al-Hilal was willing to pay Manchester United €120 million (around R$770 million at the current exchange rate) for the transfer of the 30-year-old Portuguese international.

With 19 goals and 19 assists, Bruno Fernandes is one of the few players who have shone this season for Manchester United, who finished only 15th in the Premier League and were runners-up in the Europa League.
