
Former Real Madrid number 11 Gareth Bale has joined forces with a US investment group to try to buy an English club
Multi-champion for Real Madrid, former Welsh striker Gareth Bale wants to buy a third division club. According to the English newspaper The Telegraph, the former number 11 for the Spanish team wants to become one of the shareholders of Plymouth Argyle, from Football League One (English Third Division).
According to the press outlet, the former footballer has joined forces with a US investment group to make a takeover proposal. The club from the city of Plymouth was founded in 1886. This season, it finished 23rd (second to last) in the EFL Championship (English Second Division) and was relegated.
A member of Real Madrid’s three-time Champions League winners (2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018), Bale played for Southampton and Tottenham before joining the Spanish club in 2013/2014. After leaving the Merengue team in 2022, the former athlete played for Los Angeles FC before retiring from the field, later that year.
