Atacante Cristian Pavón was taken by the police to the Special Criminal Court (Jecrim) at the Arena do Grêmio after the Tricolor was eliminated in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, on Tuesday (20/5), with a goalless draw against CSA, who qualified due to a 3-2 victory in the first leg.

Upset with the disallowance of a goal in the final minutes of the game, the former Atlético player tried to spit on referee Matheus Candançan (SP) in a general scuffle as he left the field. However, Pavón hit a police officer and ended up being taken to the police station at the stadium in Porto Alegre.

Pavón apologized to the police officer and was released from the police station after giving a statement. The Argentine will be held criminally liable for attempted assault. The police report also reported insults from the player to the referee.

At 43 minutes into the second half, Grêmio scored with Aravena, after a corner kick from the left. Referee Matheus Delgado Candançan saw a foul by Kannemann in the play and disallowed the goal that would have determined the team’s qualification for a penalty shootout. Arezo was sent off for his outrageous complaint.

After the match, the Military Police had to escort the referees to the locker room due to protests from Grêmio fans over the disallowed goal. CSA advanced to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The club from Maceió is awaiting the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) draw to find out its next opponent in the tournament.
