A recent acquaintance of Brazilian football is among the highlights of the 2024/25 Premier League. Former Corinthians e Flamengo player, Portuguese Vitor Pereira is competing for the best coach of the season award for his work at Wolverhampton, as announced by the official profile of the English Championship. Voting will be open to the public until 8 am on Monday (19/5).
Coaches Thomas Frank, from Brentford, Eddie Howe, from Newcastle, and Nuno Espírito Santo, from Nottingham Forest, are competing with the Portuguese and Arne Slot, who is the big favorite for the award. The Dutch coach arrived in England this season and was Premier League champion with Liverpool with four rounds to spare.
Vitor Pereira’s work at Wolves has been praised for the team’s comeback, even though they are still at the bottom of the English Championship table. Wolverhampton is in 14th place, with 41 points, with no risk of relegation and no chance of seeking a place in European competitions next season in the remaining two rounds.
The Portuguese coach’s greatest achievement with the team was leading the comeback and leaving the relegation zone. When he took over at Wolves in December, Vitor Pereira found the team in 19th place, with only two wins in 16 matches. Thus, in the 20 rounds of the English Championship with the former Corinthians and Flamengo coach in charge, the team won 10 and moved away from relegation. The coach’s work was even awarded with the award for best coach in April.
Between 2022 and 2023, Vitor Pereira had spells at Corinthians and Flamengo in Brazil. First, the Portuguese coach was hired by Timão, where he did a great job. In 64 games at the helm of Alvinegro, VP achieved 29 victories, finished fourth in the Brasileirão and was runner-up in the Copa do Brasil in 2022.
The coach then controversially left Corinthians and, in January 2023, was announced by Flamengo. However, his time at Rubro-Negro was not good and, after 16 games, he was fired due to the team’s poor performance on the field.
