Captain of the Brazilian national team in the 2002 World Cup, former right-back Cafu gave a gift to Pope Leo XIV during his visit this week. The former number 2 of Brazil is in Rome for the Sports Jubilee and participated in the General Audience at the Vatican. The five-time champion gave an autographed jersey to Leo.

On social media, Cafu celebrated the meeting and highlighted the team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup. “A special moment on a special day for our Brazilian national team 🇧🇷. We are the only nation present in all the World Cups and now with the blessing to continue towards the Hexa”, he wrote on social media.

Brazil beat Paraguay 1-0 on Tuesday (10/6) at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo, in the 16th round of the South American World Cup Qualifiers and secured a spot in the National Team tournament.

With the victory, the National Team reached 25 points and is in third place in the Qualifiers. The team’s next match will be against Chile, as the home team, in September, in the 17th round of the competition.
