England beat Spain on penalties to win Women's Euro

In the final, the English team beat Spain, the rival they had lost to in the final of the last World Cup, in 2023.

Inglaterra won their second Women’s Euro Championship title this Sunday (July 27th), and the trophy came with a sense of revenge. In the final, the English team defeated Espanha, their rivals, whom they lost to in the final of the last World Cup in 2023.

In regular time, the teams drew 1-1, but the English triumphed 3-1 on penalties. European champions in 2022, when they defeated Germany in the final and achieved their first title, the team led by coach Sarina Wiegman overcame the Spanish after drawing 1-1 in normal time and winning the penalty shootout 3-1.

It was England’s revenge after their 1-0 defeat in the final of the World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, two years ago. A first-time Euro finalist, Spain was seeking their first title to crown the growth of the country’s women’s football in recent years. England and Spain also faced each other in the quarterfinals of Euro 2022.

On that occasion, the victory went to the English, 2-1, a result that was part of the campaign until winning the unprecedented title for the team.
