Club World Cup match delayed due to weather conditions

Ulsan and Mamelodi Sundowns players were already on the field when the Club World Cup match was postponed.

Ulsan Hyundai e Mamelodi Sundowns players were already on the pitch at Inter&Co Stadium when the announcement appeared on the big screen that the match would be postponed. The match on Tuesday (17/6), for the first round of Group F of the Club World Cup, was scheduled to start at 7:00 pm (Brasília time), but weather conditions prevented the ball from rolling at the scheduled time.

The recommendations were for the players and coaching staff to return to the locker room, while the fans were asked to seek covered areas. In a statement, FIFA reported that the match was postponed by 40 minutes and that, after that time, the players will have another 10 minutes to warm up. The match will then start at 7:50 pm (Brasília time).

Before the postponement was announced, the low attendance at the Orlando City stadium, an MLS team, was striking. Official numbers have not been released, but posts on social media, such as that of Australian journalist Maher Mezah, say that the number of fans present would be less than 10% of the arena’s total capacity – which is 25,500.

Ulsan Hyundai and Mamelodi Sundowns are in the group with Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup. On Tuesday (17), the teams drew 0-0.
