Champion of Série D in 2024, Retrô secured qualification for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil by eliminating Fortaleza

Founded in 2016, Retrô secured qualification for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil for the first time. The spot was secured this Wednesday (21/5), when the team from Pernambuco beat Fortaleza on penalties in the third phase. The performance so far represents a historic milestone for the club.

Champion of Série D of the Brazilian Championship last year, Fênix began its Copa do Brasil campaign in the first phase. First, it beat Jequié, from Bahia, with a 2-1 victory away from home. In the next stage, the rival was Atlético Goianiense, which plays in the Série D. The teams tied 1-1 at Antônio Accioly, in Goiânia, and the spot was decided on penalties – a match in which Retrô came out on top and won 4-1. The draw then put Fortaleza in the path of the blue-and-whites. The first duel, at Arena Pernambuco, ended in a 1-1 draw – a score that was repeated in the second leg, at Castelão. Just like in the previous stage, Retrô decided the spot on penalties: 4-1 and qualification for the team from Recife.

Now, Azulão awaits the draw by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to find out its opponent in the next stage of the Copa do Brasil.

With its advancement to the round of 16, Retrô has already secured R$7,783,500 in prize money. The number exceeds the club’s revenue in 2023, which was R$5,272,001 – the 2024 financial statement has not yet been released.
