A long-time dream of the Brazilian National Team, the Italian coach is experiencing a moment of pressure in charge of Real Madrid on the eve of the Champions League final
Carlo Ancelotti’s days at Real Madrid have been more relaxed. A multi-champion, the Italian coach – a long-time dream of the Brazilian National Team – is experiencing a moment of pressure at the Spanish club. He himself admits to being tired with part of the fans, but he clings to the trust of president Florentino Pérez.
On Monday (7/4), Ancelotti gave a press conference on the eve of the match against Arsenal. At one point, a journalist asked him if he understands that people are tired of seeing him in charge of Real. The experienced 65-year-old coach has been in the position since June 1, 2021, when he took over from Zinedine Zidane.
“I don’t know, I don’t know (laughs). It could be that a lot of people are tired. It doesn’t seem to me that the most important person (Florentino Pérez) is tired, that’s what matters,” Ancelotti began.
“The most important person is happy, he’s with me, he supports me, he helps me. That’s what counts. Everything else, if a lot of people are tired, doesn’t matter to me. I hope the most important person in this club doesn’t get tired,” added the coach, one of the national team’s targets to replace the sacked Dorival Júnior.
Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are in the running for all the titles this season. They will face arch-rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final and are still in the Champions League. In the Spanish Championship, they are second in the standings, with 63 points – four less than Barça’s 67. There are eight rounds left in La Liga.
The pressure on Ancelotti, however, has increased in recent days. The team’s performance has worsened and they are coming off a setback in La Liga: a 2-1 defeat to Valencia on Saturday, at the Santiago Bernabéu, in the 30th round and a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League.
