Goalkeeper Keylor Navas, 38, leaves Newell’s Old Boys to join Pumas of Mexico for around 2 million dollars

Guarda-redes Keylor Navas’s time at Newell’s Old Boys has come to an end. This Monday, the team announced the sale of the player to Pumas of Mexico. The deal was worth around US$2 million (R$11 million), according to the Argentine club. The 38-year-old Costa Rican goalkeeper has been with Newell’s Old Boys since January 2025. He has played 16 times, conceded only 11 goals, and kept eight clean sheets.

Despite Navas’s strong performance, Newell’s stated that the decision to sell him was based on the team’s “collective project.”

With a successful career in European football, Keylor Navas will play for his eighth club. The goalkeeper was born in Costa Rica at Saprissa and has played for Albacete, Levante, and Real Madrid in Spain. He then played for PSG in France and Nottingham Forest in England before joining Newell’s. His most memorable stint was at the Whites, where he won three Champions League titles and a La Liga title.

Now, Keylor Navas arrives at Pumas with the mission of bolstering the team’s defense, which conceded six goals in the first two rounds of the Mexican Championship. Coach Efraín Juarez is expected to count on the Costa Rican goalkeeper’s experience and possibly start him in the upcoming matches.
