John Textor, owner of Botafogo’s SAF, and the board of directors of the football department are already in the market looking for a replacement
Botafogo announced in the early hours of Monday (30/6) that it had fired coach Renato Paiva. The decision was communicated to the coach after the team was eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup.
Paiva had been in charge of the team since the beginning of the season and had achieved some remarkable moments, such as the historic victory over Paris Saint-Germain, still in the group stage of the international tournament.
In an official statement, the club thanked Paiva and his assistants for their work, also highlighting the team’s qualifications for the round of 16 of the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil.
The departure, however, comes amid frustration over the club’s early elimination from the World Cup, the club’s main objective this semester. According to the club’s statement, John Textor, owner of Botafogo’s SAF, and the board of directors of the football department are already in the market looking for a replacement.
The next coach will have the mission of “continuing on the path to titles, fighting for the Libertadores and Brazilian championships twice and for the unprecedented Copa do Brasil title.” With Paiva’s departure, Botafogo has its third coach in the last two years, amid a project that seeks to consolidate the club once again among the protagonists of South American football.
