Atlético received two offers from Botafogo for striker Júnior Santos, but rejected both. In an interview in the mixed zone, this Thursday (12/6), the player reacted to the move by his former club.
Glorioso tried to sign the athlete on loan on both occasions, without financial compensation. Six months after buying the “Jacaré” for R$44 million, the Minas Gerais team has not even opened negotiations.
Galo’s number 37 spoke about the subject in response to No Ataque, after the black and white team’s 2-0 victory over Internacional, at Arena MRV, in the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship. He guarantees that he has not received any direct contact and wants to make history with his current club.
“I saw some things in the press, I don’t know if it was official or anything. I’ll leave the off-field stuff to my agent. I have a contract here at Galo. If it really happened, I’m happy because of the affection I have there and also happy because of the club’s position here in showing the interest that Galo showed when they brought me here, in trusting the project. With each game I’m adapting better, I’m sure I’ll make history wearing this jersey,” he said.
Júnior Santos was called into action in injury time of the match against Inter, replacing striker Rony. Even with few minutes on the field, he made the most of the opportunity and extended the lead for Galo. This was his second goal in 16 games for the black and white team. The striker also has two assists wearing the black and white jersey.
With a contract until December 2027, Júnior Santos has reserve status, but is fighting for a spot in the starting lineup. The striker should be the replacement for Rony, who is suspended, in the match against Bahia, in the 13th round of Série A, in the week of July 12th.
