Bologna scores in the second half to defeat Milan in the Coppa Italia final, ending a 51-year trophy drought

Bologna <\/strong>were crowned champions of the 78th edition of the Coppa Italia <\/strong>on Wednesday (14\/5), beating Milan <\/strong>1-0 in the final played at the Stadio Olimpico<\/strong> in Rome. A goal by Swiss striker Dan Ndoye<\/strong> early in the second half (53′) was enough for Bologna <\/strong>to end a 51-year trophy drought, after winning the Coppa Italia in 1970 and 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Milan, the defeat is yet another disappointment in a season to forget. After falling behind early in the Serie A title race and being eliminated from the Champions League by Feyenoord in the playoff for access to the round of 16, the Lombard club will end the 2024-2025 season with just one title: the Italian Super Cup, won in January in the first two matches under coach S\u00e9rgio Concei\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the star of the Portuguese coach, who replaced his compatriot Paulo Fonseca, has been fading as the weeks have passed. His team, currently eighth in Serie A, has no room for error in the last two rounds if it wants to qualify for European competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday’s defeat should mean that next summer there will be another of the team’s many rebuilding processes, and Concei\u00e7\u00e3o and some of the team’s standout players could end up leaving the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
