The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in October of this year, after the end of the season in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current \u201cowner\u201d of the award is Spanish midfielder Rodri, from Manchester City, who beat Brazilian forward Vini Jr. last year and was elected the best player on the planet. Former captain of the Brazilian national team, Cafu stated that forwards Raphinha (Brazil \u2013 Barcelona) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt \u2013 Liverpool) are the players with the best chances of taking home the trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see many players these days who can compete with Raphinha. I think it\u2019s between him and Mohamed Salah. I think they\u2019re both likely to win the Ballon d\u2019Or. Rapinha has already beaten Messi\u2019s records in a team considered one of the best in the world and full of stars. (Rapinha) is the heart, the defining element, that makes Barcelona play,\u201d he said in an interview with Marca, in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very happy that he\u2019s a Brazilian, a Brazilian who\u2019s been standing out.
