After years in Europe, the left-back agreed to return to his heart club in 2019, winning numerous trophies over the next five years. His deep connection with Flamengo and desire to stay involved in football led him to accept the U-17 coaching project. On January 18, he was announced as the coach and even turned down the role of CBF national teams coordinator to pursue his dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite having coached only 20 matches at the U-17 level, Filipe Lu\u00eds won his first title, the Copa Rio, defeating Vasco at their own stadium, S\u00e3o Janu\u00e1rio. In just five months, his record was impressive: 16 wins and only four losses. In May, he moved up to the U-20 team, where he claimed another title\u2014the Intercontinental Cup in August\u2014along with a solid record: ten wins, two draws, and five losses in 17 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late September, came his biggest challenge yet: the invitation to replace Tite as head coach of the senior team, who was dismissed after Flamengo’s elimination in the Libertadores quarter-finals by Pe\u00f1arol. Filipe Lu\u00eds quickly captured the fans’ hearts, stating in interviews that he had learned a lot from Jorge Jesus, the successful coach of 2019, and that he wanted a Flamengo that played attacking football and constantly pressured the opponent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His debut was a success: a 1-0 win over Corinthians in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semifinal, with a packed Maracan\u00e3 and strong football on display.
