Valladolid, with 16 points, is the team with the second lowest number of points in the history of the competition
Relegated again in the Spanish Championship (LaLiga), Real Valladolid – the team managed by Ronaldo Nazário – entered the list of the worst teams in the history of the national competition, in a survey carried out by the newspaper Marca. The list considers the five worst performances in the 94 editions of LaLiga.
The former majority shareholder of Cruzeiro has been in charge of Real Valladolid since 2021. Valladolid, with 16 points, is the team with the second lowest number of points in the history of the competition, although there are still three games to go. “Valladolid was unable to find the consistency needed to compete in the first division. With a squad that, in theory, had quality players, the team was unable to overcome defensive problems or improve its ability to score goals”, highlights the publication.
“Despite an environment that was favorable to football and a stadium that was always difficult for opponents to play in, the team was unable to adapt to the demands of LaLiga,” he adds. On the list, only Sporting de Gijón from the 1997/98 season had a worse campaign than Valladolid, with 13 points.
“Sporting Gijón is the team that holds the record for fewest points in a LaLiga season. This Sporting was a shadow of its best version, a team that had experienced moments of glory in previous decades, but that year, it was unable to find the form to remain in the category,” he says. Completing the Top 3 is Granada from the 2016/17 season, which scored 20 points.
