Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos and Antonio Rüdiger have been punished for provoking Atlético de Madrid fans.
UEFA imposed fines on Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos and Antonio Rüdiger on Friday (4/4) for “indecent behavior” in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atlético de Madrid at the Metropolitano stadium in March.
According to the Spanish press, the three players provoked and mocked Atlético fans while celebrating the team’s qualification on penalties. UEFA ordered Mbappé to pay 30 thousand euros (R$ 185 thousand at the current exchange rate), Rüdiger 40 thousand euros (R$ 247 thousand) and Ceballos 20 thousand euros (R$ 123 thousand).
Mbappé and Rüdiger could still be banned for one game in European competition, but only if they reoffend within a year, and will therefore be eligible to face Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals next Tuesday.
UEFA did not impose any punishment on Brazilian Vinícius Júnior, after opening an investigation last week into the four Madrid players.
The organization did not detail the acts sanctioned, but mentioned the violation of article 11 of its disciplinary code, which requires “decent conduct” from players.
