Pedro takes a stand on controversies at Flamengo and questions Filipe Luís

Pedro provided clarification on the manager’s dialogue with the journalist and public statements by coach Filipe Luís.

Striker Pedro spoke out this Monday (July 14th) about the controversies surrounding his name at Flamengo. He provided clarification to Flamengo fans via an Instagram story post. The player was upset about being “put up for sale” by a member of the club’s football department.

This director told journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira that Pedro could be traded if an acceptable offer arrived. The UOL columnist and Jovem Pan commentator posted the content on his social media on July 2nd.

“It’s undeniable that I felt devalued and exposed after a member of the club’s football department put me up for sale and ruled me out for the remainder of the season. I built my career at Flamengo with a lot of struggle and dedication. I fought for my place from day one. I won important titles and a place in history. I expected more respect.”

According to Pedro, this situation impacted his performance in training. “Obviously, this caused my performance to drop on a daily basis. I’m not vain, and I admit that, during the last week, my performance was below that of my teammates. That’s why I wasn’t included in the squad.” The situation was exposed by coach Filipe Luís in the press conference following Flamengo’s 2-0 victory over São Paulo last Saturday (July 12th) at Maracanã, in the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship.

The manager stated that the center forward behaved deplorably, “bordering on ridiculous,” during the week’s training sessions. In Pedro’s opinion, the coach was disrespectful in bringing the matter to the press and, consequently, to the fans.

“The explanation for not being involved was simple and clear, but the way it was presented publicly was outrageous and disrespectful.”
