Former England international Paul Gascoigne, 58, was hospitalized after collapsing at home last Friday (July 18). He was rushed to the hospital by his driver and personal assistant, Steve Foster, who found him unconscious at his home in Dorset, a county in southwest England. “Paul is in the hospital, the best possible place for him at the moment,” Foster told British newspaper “The Sun,” adding that the former player “thanks everyone for the support he has received” since his hospitalization.
Gascoigne, who played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, and Glasgow Rangers, among other clubs, was initially admitted to intensive care after collapsing on Friday, before being transferred to another unit, where his condition is considered stable.

An icon of the England national team in the 1990s, “Gazza,” as he is known, has long suffered from alcoholism and depression and has experienced a series of health problems in recent years. In 2020, he stated in an interview with the Daily Mirror that he had spent 20,000 pounds (approximately R$150,000 at the current exchange rate) on medication to treat his alcohol addiction.
