Corinthians forward Memphis Depay publicly responded to a criticism posted by an internet user on his official Instagram account. Moments later, the Dutchman deleted the post.
In the message, shared by Memphis, Pedro Macedo Cesar criticized the athlete for his high salary at Corinthians. “You should be ashamed of yourself for taking so many dollars from your club and leaving the girls in the youth academy without a salary. The most humane thing you could do is donate your fortune to them. Girls who are truly hungry,” Pedro wrote.
In his stories, Memphis responded: “Have you ever been to Africa, Pedrinho? You don’t know what hunger looks like. Big hug, champion.” Shortly after, the post was deleted.
Corinthians delayed Memphis’ salary
Corinthians delayed not only Memphis’s salary, but also that of all the club’s players and staff in June. The board managed to resolve the matter quickly and settled the outstanding debt this Tuesday.
The salaries were supposed to be deposited last Monday, the fifth business day of the month. Recently, the Dutchman also notified Osmar Stabile’s board of directors about overdue image rights. The debt was paid days later. However, Memphis and the rest of the squad have still not received the bonus promised by the previous management for winning the Campeonato Paulista.
Corinthians’ Next Game
After about a month away from the field, Corinthians is in the final stretch of preparation for the return of the Brazilian Championship. Next Sunday, the team hosts Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena for the 13th round of the competition. Kick-off starts at 7 pm (Brasília time).
