The black and white team from São Paulo announced the dismissal of the Argentine coach this Thursday (4/17) after a defeat to Fluminense.
The Díaz family’s time in charge of Corinthians has come to an end. This Thursday (4/17), after a defeat to Fluminense at home in the Brazilian Championship, coach Ramón Díaz was fired by the board and will no longer be in charge of Timão. Assistant coaches Emiliano Díaz, Bruno Urribarri and Osmar Ferreyra, as well as physical trainer Diego Pereira, are also leaving the club.
Ramón Díaz could not resist Corinthians’ poor performances and poor streak. The black and white team has not won in three games in all competitions – two defeats (against Palmeiras and Fluminense, both by 2-0, in the Brazilian Championship) and one draw (against América de Cali-COL, 1-1, in the South American Championship). The Argentine and his team arrived at Corinthians in July of last year to replace António Oliveira. In total, he played 60 games on the pitch, with 31 wins, 16 draws and 13 losses.
The coach leaves Corinthians with a trophy already won: the 2025 Campeonato Paulista, over arch-rival Palmeiras, which ended a six-year drought for Corinthians. In Série A, however, the team is in 13th place in the table, with only four points. In the South American, they also had a terrible start and are not even in the playoff zone.
Recent poor results, combined with the team’s lack of progress on the pitch, culminated in the dismissal of Ramón Díaz. The Corinthians board is now trying to find a new coach. The coach of the under-20 team, Orlando Ribeiro, will lead the professional team’s training session this Friday. Without Ramón Díaz, Corinthians returns to the field this Saturday, when they face Sport, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena, for the fifth round of the Brasileirão. Alvinegro aims to recover after two consecutive defeats in the competition.
