Botafogo defeated Flamengo 4-1 yesterday (August 18) in the 23rd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The match, held at the Nilton Santos Stadium, featured goals from Matheus Martins (2x), Igor Jesus, and Mateo Ponte for Botafogo, and Bruno Henrique for Flamengo.
Botafogo opened the scoring early in the game: in the third minute of the first half, Igor Jesus delivered a cross into the area, and Mateo Ponte headed it in to take the lead. However, Flamengo equalized before the end of the first half: Léo Ortiz made a long pass from defense, and Bruno Henrique was face-to-face with goalkeeper John, hitting over the top to level the score in the 24th minute.
