On Thursday, Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s coach, was asked about the rumors involving Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and the English club. The coach did not mention the Brazilian’s name, but he hinted that he would be a good signing for the Gunners in the next window. “If you want to win big trophies, you need to be the best in the market, right? The teams that win have the best players, always, always at that level. What we have, and what is also clear with the amount of injuries we have had in the front line, is that we need a goal threat and we need firepower up front. Understanding that the context can change tomorrow, you know, and that we cannot just rely on the numbers we had before. We need to add goals, we need to add creativity, we need to add numbers, and that will come in different positions”, said the coach.
Rumors about Rodrygo leaving Real Madrid grew even more after the last El Classico, in the Spanish Championship. Ancelotti made four substitutions, all of them with Real trailing on the scoreboard and needing to score goals. The Italian brought on Modric, Brahim Díaz, Endrick and Victor Muñoz, even with the Brazilian available.
“There is nothing wrong with Rodrygo or with us, I am very happy with him. He has not recovered well from a fever he had and is still not at his best”, justified Ancelotti in the post-match press conference.
