Cruzeiro’s chances of winning the Brazilian Championship title have fallen by 13 percentage points, according to calculations by UFMG.
Flamengo regained the lead in the Brazilian Championship at the end of the 17th round and increased its chances of winning the title, according to calculations by the Mathematics Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The numbers also point to a decline in Cruzeiro’s title chances.
Cruzeiro hosted Ceará at Mineirão this Sunday (July 27th) and lost 2-1. Flamengo, on the other hand, beat Atlético 1-0 at Maracanã and returned to first place in the Brasileirão. With this, the red-and-black team reached a 41.9% chance of lifting the national title, according to UFMG. Raposa, meanwhile, was overtaken by Palmeiras and is the third team with the highest probability of winning the trophy: 13.4%.
The round cost Cruzeiro more than 10 percentage points. Previously, the Minas Gerais team was the second-highest chance of winning the Brasileirão, and UFMG estimated a 26.7% probability.
