English club will pay more than R$400 million for Vitor Gyokeres, who played for Sporting in recent seasons
One of the longest-running sagas in European football this transfer window has come to an end. Arsenal has finally completed the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. The Gunners will have to pay approximately €63.5 million (approximately R$415 million) in a fixed fee, plus an additional €10 million in additional clauses.
Gyokeres will sign with Arsenal on a five-year contract, valid until June 2030. The Swede had already indicated to Sporting that he wanted to leave the club and, therefore, was released from the team’s preseason activities to negotiate the final details of his transfer to the English club. Information about the agreement between Arsenal and Sporting was first reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, an expert on football transfers.
Difficult negotiation
Arsenal had been negotiating Gyokeres’ signing with Sporting for several weeks. However, the English club received some rejections regarding the fee, but has now reached an agreement. In addition to Arsenal, Manchester United has shown significant interest in Gyokeres, which has caused some concern for the Gunners. Gyokeres was a top target in this transfer window for his last two seasons at Sporting, where he won two Portuguese championships.
He ended the 2024/25 season as the second-highest scorer in Europe, behind Mbappé only due to his lower weight in the Portuguese Championship. Between the Swedish national team and Sporting, he scored 63 goals in 58 games, an average of over a goal per game. In total, Gyokeres has scored 109 goals in the last two years. He arrives in London to compete for a spot with Mikel Merino – who was deployed as a makeshift striker –, German Kai Havertz, and Brazilian Gabriel Jesus.
