Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham was due to face Borussia Dortmund star Jobe Bellingham in the Club World Cup quarter-finals
The clash between Real Madrid 和 Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup had football fans waiting for the meeting between the English brothers Jude 和 Jobe Bellingham.
The former, 22, is one of the stars of the Spanish giant and one of the best midfielders in the world, while the latter, 19, was the main signing of the German team – where his older brother had already shone – for the Club World Cup. Jobe was bought last month from Sunderland in England – and is one of the great promises of international football.
Everything indicated that the two would face each other in the quarterfinals. Real proved their favoritism by finishing first in Group H and beating Juventus in the round of 16 on Tuesday (2/7). Borussia, in turn, was the leader of Group F and eliminated Monterrey in the round of 16, also on Tuesday. However, an unforeseen event during one of the games prevented the Bellinghams from meeting in the next phase.
Why won’t the Bellingham brothers meet in the quarterfinals?
In the 29th minute of the first half of Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win over Monterrey, Jobe Bellingham was shown a yellow card for kicking Deossa, a standout midfielder for the Mexican team. The warning was the Englishman’s second in the competition.
In the 1-0 win over Ulsan HD from South Korea, in the third round of the Club World Cup, he had already been shown a yellow card. As such, he is suspended for the next game – yellow cards only expire in the semifinals of the competition. Jude Bellingham, in turn, will be eligible to play for Real against the team he played for between the 2020/2021 and 2022/2023 seasons.
This will be the second time he has faced his former club – the first was in the 2023/2024 Champions League final, won by the Spanish side 2-0 with Jude assisting the winning goal, scored by Brazilian striker Vinicius Júnior.
