In the rematch after the Paulistão final, Palmeiras beat Corinthians 2-0 this Saturday (12/4) at Arena Barueri, in the third round of the Brazilian Championship. The green and white team had an overwhelming start to the game and needed less than 20 minutes to score with Piquerez and Emiliano Martínez.

Thus, they controlled the derby and won, with the fans chanting “olé”. With the victory, Palmeiras reached seven points in nine games and took the lead in the Brazilian Championship. Corinthians, on the other hand, remains with four points in sixth place. However, they could lose positions throughout the round.

Verdão will return to the field next Wednesday (16/4), against Inter, at Beira-Rio, while Timão will host Fluminense, on the same day, at Neo Química Arena.

Palmeiras had an overwhelming start to the derby and needed 20 minutes to secure the victory. With great fluidity on the right side with Richard Ríos, Estêvão and Felipe Anderson, Verdão dominated the match. Thus, it didn’t take long for them to open the scoring. Before that, Gustavo Gomez gave goalkeeper Matheus Donelli a hard time.

In the next play, however, Piquerez got a rebound at the edge of the area and made it 1-0. Corinthians felt the blow. And Palmeiras grew. Vitor Roque almost extended the lead after receiving a pass from Felipe Anderson. But he shot over the top. Then, the number 7 had the chance to extend the lead, but hit the post. However, the rebound remained with Verdão.

Facundo Torres controlled the ball and set up Emiliano Martínez, who hit a beautiful shot from outside the area to score the second goal for the green and white team. The atmosphere in the derby heated up after the first half. The game became more tense, with many strong tackles and arguments. As a result, the match cooled down and no one created any chances. On the other hand, referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein (RS) handed out nine cards in all, including coach Abel Ferreira. André Ramalho was also given one after just three minutes of play, making a total of ten.

The derby started off lively again in the second half. In the first minute, Facundo Torres received a cross from Richard Ríos and headed the ball against the crossbar. Corinthians, on the other hand, tried to respond with Hugo, but his shot went wide of Weverton’s goal. However, the pace dropped. Verdão, even without the ball, controlled the game, since Timão did not know how to create plays.

The game got lively again in the 22nd minute. After a play by Estêvão, Vitor Roque headed in and made it 3-0. But the goal was disallowed for offside by Gustavo Gomez. Palmeiras, however, grew. Vitor Roque, in the 25th minute, was stopped by Matheus Donelli. In the next play, Estêvão gained speed and chipped the ball past the goalkeeper, but the ball went out of the corner.

After 30 minutes, coach Abel Ferreira gave Paulinho his debut. The number 10 showed his determination and had two shots in less than ten minutes. In one of the chances, goalkeeper Matheus Donelli made a difficult save. However, despite Verdão’s attempts, the third goal did not come. Even so, the fans celebrated with shouts of “olé” to complete the night.
