Leandro Lima, a Brazilian striker who played in Europe, dies at age 23

The young player was the brother of a striker who played for Corinthians and Vasco, who lamented his death: ‘He left us too soon’.

Forward for FK Prostejov, a team in the Czech Republic’s Second Division, Brazilian Leandro Lima died this Sunday (2/30), at age 23. Leandro was the brother of Léo Jabá, a São Bernardo striker who was discovered by Corinthians and previously played for Vasco.

“Guys, unfortunately this news is true. My brother left us too soon, it has been an extremely difficult time for me and my family. I’m still trying to assimilate everything. I thank you in advance for the messages”, wrote Léo, in an Instagram post with photos with his brother as a child.

Leandro was on loan to Prostejov from FK Pardubice, second-to-last in the Czech championship elite. The club that holds the Brazilian’s economic rights announced his death on social media.

Leandro played for several traditional clubs in the youth categories: Ponte Preta, São Bernardo, Fluminense, Oeste and Bahia. The striker made his professional debut for São Bernardo in 2019. But the first team he stood out for in the main team was União Mogi, for which he scored seven goals in nine games in 2022.

Lima’s great performance in the interior of São Paulo caught the attention of Pardubice, who signed him in 2023. In the same year, he was loaned to Samgurali Tskaltubo, from Georgia and, after returning to the Czech Republic team, he was loaned to Prostejov for the 2024/2025 season.

There, the youngster scored two goals in 12 matches. The last time he took to the field was on March 14.
